John 17:1-3

After chatting with the disciples and talking about big calls, big challenges, and big promises, Jesus spent time in prayer before Jesus got crucified.

Jesus knew that "the hour has come", so he asked the Father to glorify the Son "that [the] Son also may glorify [the Father]" (17:1). God glorified the Son in that He brought honor -- especially since the Son followed the Father. Additionally, Jesus talked about how the Father "had given [Jesus] authority over all flesh" in that "[Jesus] should give eternal life to as many as [the Father] had given [Jesus]" (17:2). Jesus's authority was on providing the way to eternal life (though it's heavily implied that it's much more) -- and with his authority, Jesus provided the gift of eternal life.

Speaking of "eternal life", Jesus talked about what eternal life is in His prayer. Jesus stated that in eternal life, the people "may know [the Father]" who is "the only true God" as well as Jesus himself (17:3). Everyone who believes in Jesus as Lord and Savior has familiarity with Jesus himself, and those believers would get to meet the Father after they get resurrected. However, even on Earth, we can get to know the Father thanks to the good ol' Bible as well as prayer.
