John 19:5-7

In the process of getting scourged, Jesus got a crown of thorns as well as a purple robe. Then Pilate presented Jesus to the crowd, who basically chanted, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" (19:6). But while Pilate had given in to public pressure to beat Jesus, Pilate was still aware of Jesus's innocence and likely did not want to crucify Jesus at first. In fact, Pilate told the Judeans to "take Him and crucify Him" (19:7).

But in response, the Judeans proclaimed that Jesus should die because of the law. Their reasoning was that "He made Himself the Son of God" (19:8). We've seen Jesus refer Himself as Son multiple times, and Jesus made the statements because, well, he is the Son of God right from the start. Additionally, from John 18, the Judeans did not want to crucify Jesus themselves because of Passover legality. The pressuring of someone else's moral conscious to do something wrong to protect their own can be seen as another example of hypocrisy.
