John 6:7-11

Jesus asked the disciples on how to get food to feed the multitude (around 5000 men), likely to test their faith and to open up a conversation.

However, the disciples doubted that Jesus could even accomplish such a task. Phillip talked about how it takes more than 200 denarii (AKA half a year's wages) to feed them all (6:7). Andrew talked about how a lad had 5 loaves and 2 fish, but that's all (6:8-9). The disciples likely thought on a practical scale.

In contrast, Jesus thought on a scale with God's power. After having the people sit down, Jesus gave thanks to God regarding the loaves and fishes (6:11). Jesus likely knew that the loaves and fishes are made up of resources that God originally created, and as Creator, God can do extraordinary feats with his own creation. After giving thanks, Jesus hands the pieces to the disciples so they can hand the food to the people sitting down (6:11). The disciples likely had a role so they can see Jesus's feat in action for themselves.

Even in today's world, it's easy to see problems as overwhelming. However, we can change perspective and look top-down because of God's overwhelming love and care. Jesus is known for doing unexpected comeback surprises, so we can look to Jesus in times of need. Even if we don't have much to bring to Jesus, Jesus can do a lot with what we bring to him.
