John 7:45-53

Some people tried to capture Jesus, but at that time, they failed to do so. The priests and Pharisees asked the officers why they haven't captured Jesus, but the officers pointed out how Jesus was too different and stood out to the point that it's hard for them to really do anything!

But the Pharisees aren't convinced. They thought that the officers too were deceived, and their reasoning was that they thought Jesus (and the crowd of believers) do not know the law, so they are accursed (7:49). The Pharisees may claim to be attenuative to the minor details of the Law, but they miss the big picture. Often times, over-focusing on religious rules and regulations results in overlooking the importance and significance of Jesus in our lives.

In fact, Nicodemus (who is one of the teachers of Law and previously had a chat with Jesus in John 3) pointed out how the law gives one a hearing and ensures that others know what he is doing before judgment. Judgment at first sight does not cut it. So the other Pharisees actually missed a point in the Law they studied! However, the other Pharisees still disbelieved and pointed out how no prophet came out of Galilee. It's worth noting that with a proper hearing, Jesus technically came from Bethlehem (since he was born there), and non-inclusion does not necessarily mean exclusion.
